Oregano. Is the first thing that comes to mind is the dried oregano jar in your spice cabinet used for cooking.
By-the-way, it has probably lost its potent effectiveness if it is over six months old. It’s an excellent herb used in Mediterranean cooking [tasty on garlic bread], no doubt. But it is so much more, especially as an essential oil.
Oregano, a powerhouse essential oil for medicinal use. Its properties include antiviral, antibacterial, anti-fungal, antiallergenic, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, along with having digestive properties too.
It boosts the immune system, reduces infections, relieves sinus congestion and infections, reduces colds and flus, eases digestive ailments (diarrhea, constipation, gas, bloating), assists in weight loss, dissolves warts and it’s an outstanding dental aid for gum diseases like canker sores and gingivitis. There are hundreds of ways to use oregano essential oil effectively from head to toe.
Our teeth and gums are an important key to a healthy heart. Healthy mouth, healthy heart.
A simple homemade mouthwash using Oregano essential oil daily will eliminate bad breath. Just mix 2 drops of oregano essential oil in 8 ounces of water, swish in your mouth and spit it out.
Another, and probably the best oral hygiene practice [especially effective for gingivitis] is to add oregano to coconut oil for oil pulling. Oil pulling is simply taking a tablespoon or so of coconut oil infused with essential oils and swishing it rigorously in your mouth for at least 20 minutes. Put 4 – 5 drops of Oregano oil in 4 ounces of coconut oil to keep handy. Scoop a tablespoon, placing it in your mouth to oil pull first thing in the morning before brushing your teeth. Do this daily. The oil pulls toxins from your mouth so be sure to never swallow this mixture, just spit it out after 20 minutes into the trash. [Don’t want to pour it down the drain—may clog things up over time.]
If you are pregnant, or allergic to oregano, please check with your doctor before using any essential oil.
